Once your little one makes their debut, you simply let me know, and we lock in the exact date together. So if you booked a maternity session earlier in your pregnancy, even better, we will have already talked through your vision, and everything flows seamlessly from bump to baby.
Still, do not worry if your baby is already a few weeks old. Older newborns and babies make beautiful, wide-eyed subjects too. We simply adjust the style of the session to suit their stage.
In studio or in your home, your choice
Every family is different, so as your Charlotte newborn photographer, I offer sessions both in the studio and in the comfort of your own home. In the studio, you will find a warm, calm space stocked with everything we need: props, wraps, blankets, and a curated wardrobe for baby and for you. It is heated to keep your little one cozy, and there is nothing for you to set up or clean.
An in-home lifestyle session, on the other hand, has a beautifully intimate feeling. We use your own space, your nursery, your bed, and the soft morning light through your windows, to tell the real story of these first days. There is no right answer; rather, it comes down to the look and feeling you want to remember. We will talk it through during your planning so you choose what fits your family best.
What to expect with your Charlotte newborn photographer during the session
Newborn sessions are slow, gentle, and completely unhurried, usually running two to three hours. That length is not about how long we photograph; instead, it gives your baby room to be a baby. So we pause for feedings, for diaper changes, and for soothing whenever your little one needs it, and nothing is ever rushed.
Throughout, I guide every moment, so you never have to wonder what to do with your hands or how to hold your baby. Some of the session will be just your newborn, posed safely and swaddled in soft tones. The rest will include you, your partner, and any older siblings, because those first family portraits are the ones you will cherish most. My only goal is for you to relax and soak in your baby while I quietly capture it all.
How to prepare your baby (and yourself)
A little preparation goes a long way toward a smooth, sleepy session. Dress them in something loose with no tight elastic, so there are no red marks on their skin when we unwrap them. Of course, if we are in the studio, I provide nearly everything, but it is always lovely to bring any sentimental items you would like included: a special blanket, a family heirloom, a name sign, or a stuffed animal meant for your child. For in-home sessions, simply have the rooms we will use tidy and the heat turned up. Beyond that, bring extra pacifiers, a change of clothes for baby, and plenty of patience for yourself.
After the session: turning moments into heirlooms

A few weeks later, we will meet for a personal design appointment where you see your gallery for the first time, and together we choose how to bring your favorite images to life.
