Your newborn session is designed to be calm, slow-paced, and completely baby-led. There’s no rush — plenty of time for snuggles, feeding breaks, and those tiny wiggles in between. As a Charlotte newborn photographer my goal is for you to feel relaxed and present while I gently capture those first, fleeting moments.
Here’s a simple checklist to help you prepare and feel confident walking in.
A Well-Stocked Diaper Bag
Newborns have their own rhythm, and that often means a few outfit changes along the way.
Pack the essentials:
Diapers and wipes
Burp cloths
Two extra onesies (accidents happen!)
A change of clothes for you — just in case of spit-up
Diaper cream, if you use it
Feeding Must-Haves
Whether you’re nursing or bottle-feeding, plan for one or two feeding breaks during the session.
Bring along:
Bottles with extra formula or breastmilk
A nursing cover, if you prefer privacy
Water and a light snack for yourself — staying comfortable makes a big difference
Comfort Items for Baby
Even if your little one doesn’t normally take a pacifier, it can help soothe between poses.
You might also tuck in:
A small lovey or snuggle blanket
A white-noise machine (I have one, but you’re welcome to bring your own if it’s familiar)
Favorite Swaddle or Blanket
I keep a curated selection of neutral wraps, textures, and tiny accessories in the studio, but if you have a sentimental blanket, handmade wrap, or something gifted by a loved one, bring it along — those personal touches make your gallery even more meaningful.
Special Details
If there’s a family heirloom or outfit you’d love to include — maybe Grandma’s knitted bonnet or a name bracelet — I’ll happily help style it in a timeless way that fits your session’s aesthetic.
Keeping Baby Sleepy
A few gentle prep tips can make a big difference:
Keep baby awake for 1½–2 hours before your session (a warm bath helps!)
Feed baby a full feeding right before your session begins
Bring extra milk or formula for soothing during the session
Dress baby in a zip or snap-up sleeper — nothing that goes over the head — for easy transitions
You’ve Got This, Mama
Those early days can feel like such a blur — full of love, exhaustion, and everything in between. You don’t have to have it all figured out; I’ll guide you through every step so you can simply soak in the moment.
